The Green Monster

This smoothie right here is just so very delicious. In true Tia style, it’s not a classic green monster but rather a combination of different Green Monster recipes I’ve seen around the web. Although aesthetically it’s not the most inviting drink, it’s super good. As I said in a previous blog post, after a talk with my friends Vee and Nat, I was encouraged to try things that I wouldn’t usually try and to also make healthier choices. So, thanks to them for that. Plus, if you’ve been following my blog, you’ll know that I do not cook the healthiest of meals sometimes. I love pork and all pork related products (ok ,it’s just bacon I have an obsession with), I LOVE full fat diary products – whole milk – whole mozzarella, all other full fat cheeses and don’t get me started on heavy cream, do not get me started (I’m crème brûlée queen). After eating all that stuff for so long, my body started to feel heavy (and it was showing on my bum and on my waistline). I sat down with my PIC and we discussed in depth how we plan to progress from this point on to incorporate new and healthier eating habits. This smoothie was what we used to toast new healthy beginnings. (Of course I’ll still be cooking our usual favorites but we’ve decided that moderation is the key to everything)

Ingredients:
2 cups freshly diced pineapple
juice from 1/2 lemon
2 handfuls of spinach leaves
1 apple, peeled, cored and diced
2 tbsp grated ginger
juice from 1 orange
1 cup green seedless grapes
1 cup mango
1 tbsp honey
1 container Greek yogurt

Method:
Blend everything together one at a time. Serve and enjoy!

Surprisingly this was really delicious and so easy to go down.

Bye For Now…..

  1. I would like to not like this because of the spinach but the beautiful colour and tropical ingredients are calling to me :D

Hi Tia, I take my hat off to you. I am all for a healthier eating regime. I am there with you in theory but in practice I am not sure! lol! No will power! The green monster looks delicious. I have always thought your recipes/dishes, not only look amazing, but are really healthy. I think you are right the key is moderation.
    Have a lovely day.
    Florence x

I know what you mean with the will power. One year I did a diet – juices and one solid meal every day and it’s only by the grace of God I didn’t commit suicide (just kidding) because it’s really really hard to eat super healthy all the time. That’s why this time around, I’m not putting all that pressure on myself but rather just incorporating healthier habits. I say a healthy regime two days a week gives me 5 days to “be naughty” but those 2 days surely can make a difference in the long run. Hopefully I can increase.

Thanks so much for coming by Florence and thanks for the encouragement. You’re truly a darling.

  3. I think it looks gorgeous and I bet after drinking this you were zinging withg energy and vitamins all day!

Thank you Tanya! I’m glad you think it’s gorgeous. This drink and some others that I’ve made and drink surely have my insides feeling light and healthy – or maybe it’s a psychological thing. Either way, I’m happy.

Love the color and so happy you added ginger (my fave!). So if we drink one of these we can still have some wings, right?!! All things in moderation sounds good to me too.

    Thanks, Tia!

Thank you Allison. I love ginger a lot so it was a perfect addition for me. Haha – at wings…you might get more than wings with one of these. Super yummy and super nutritious.

Thanks for dropping by as usual. Always nice to get a lovely comment from you.

  5. I’ve been looking for something more healthy, thanks.

Everything looks yummy! Even the green monster. I am going to post a green monster of my own when I get around to that part of my blog! Nice commentary.

I LOVE the color. I would try it just for that (and the mango…) I’m trying to eat healthier as well and might just have to try this…. thanks for the recipe!!!!

Tia, this smoothie is the health bomb…I would down it in an instant! It has all these delicious ingredients that are so good for you. And that colour is brilliant. And the best part is that it’s a very tropical drink- I can get all the ingredients right here in Bombay! I can’t wait for mango season to begin so that I can make this.

True Tia style eh?? That sounds wonderful!! Great combination of fruits! This must be a healthy drink! Honestly I don’t think it looks bad aesthetically. At bubble tea shops they carry drinks in grey, dark blue, dirty yellow and other funky colours imaginable!!

  11. Oh I love green smoothies. I made similar, but simpler only bananas, spinach and milk. I was surprise you could barely taste spinach. I must try one with pineapple. And colour is gorgeous, like spring.

I think you’re right, moderation is important. Look at this as an exciting opportunity to try new recipes! I personally love smoothies in the morning, they taste like dessert, but they’re healthy! I’ll have to try this one soon…

  13. Wow, that really is a monster! ;)

Really like the addition of spinach. You won’t taste it but you know there is something extra healthy in there.

    Cheers,
    Tobias

Tia, how many servings does this make? Should I be prepared to store this?
